Kennedy On Radar Screen In Quebec

H/T to this colossal embarassment for unwittingly pointing out something I had missed. Gerard Kennedy is now on the radar in Quebec:
By contrast, Mr. Ignatieff was most highly favoured by Quebeckers, 28 per cent of whom said they would pick him first among the other three party leaders.

Mr. Rae had 25 per cent of Quebeckers, Mr. Dion 24 per cent, and Mr. Kennedy 14 per cent.

Among Quebeckers, Mr. Rae, Mr. Ignatieff and Mr. Dion are all seen as better prime ministers than Mr. Harper.

Don't get me wrong, these aren't shout from the rooftop numbers for Kennedy, but considering the 1.7% of delegates he scored in Quebec, I see them as definite progress. Yes Kennedy trails substantially, but he now enjoys half the support of the top choice. I don't think it spin to suggest that Gerard Kennedy has finally shown up on the Quebec radar screen. Not bad, with relativity as my measure.

Exactly. Great start for Gerard. Quebecers need to get to know him and what he offers.

I'm sorry, but now is not the time to "start" considering that we may very well have to win an election sometime in the next four or five months. If it took Gerard 7 or 8 months to show up on the radar screen, who knows how long it will take him to win them over.

Sheesh how over blown is this Quebec thing?

Lets be serious English Quebec is going to vote for the Liberals again, the polls allready show it. It won't matter if the leader is block of wood. There just aren't that many seats to be gained in the rest of Quebec. F the rest of Quebec, F french and select a candidate that appeals the most to the ROC.

Skeena,

LOL. You think Ignatieff is ready for prime time??? He has proven he isn't. He keeps embarassing the Liberal Party. Kennedy has the poise and experience to be Leader, this time.

Anon at 9:30,

Gerard can win the election. What attack ads are the Conservatives going to run against Kennedy compared to the other top 3???
No one candidate is doing great in Quebec, the Party has a long way to go there. The reality is in order to win the election we need to dominate in Ontario, not Quebec. We will be rebuilding in Quebec gradually. That is the way it is.

Skeena Liberal,
I'm sorry, but no matter what the poll says about Ignatieff in Quebec, the FACT is, in an election, his pro-war, pro-USA speeches will be re-published and turn off the Quebec electorate all together. That's not something he can ever spin his way out of. Its a nail in his coffin. No poll will tell you that, but I guarentee it.

Skeena,

I wouldn't brag about Ignatieff. His support will not grow with his recent gaffes. Liberals are talking and they are not talking about supporting Ignatieff.

As for Kennedy, his support in Quebec is rising, he deserves credit for that, considering that he isn't as well known as Ignatieff there.
Kennedy has been a class act for the Liberal Party. I want a prime minister that thinks before he speaks and a uniter for the Party.
My second ballot vote is probably going to go to Kennedy.

"What attack ads are the Conservatives going to run against Kennedy compared to the other top 3???"

Something everyone should ask themselves when deciding.

What is this "not ready for primetime" crap? Kennedy had one of the biggest portfolios, in a massive province. How much foreign policy experience do most American Presidents have when they enter office? You could just as easily turn that around on Ignatieff, given his complete and utter lack of experience on the political front and how government works- so watch how you use that argument in championing him.

Because of course we can take Strategic Counsel polls seriously:

Never mind the statistical insignificance, look past the obvious name recognition cue in the framing of the questions:

DONOLO IS A RAE FLUNKY!

Oh Skeenka, pick yourself up off the canvas for a second... YOUR quoting a poll? C'mon, your hole existence has been about denying, muddying and ignoring polls. Ignatieff? Yeah, I don't care if he's the smartest guy on the opposition benches, he doesn't have the political smarts to take one stance and stand on it for a week! What nomadic group of the sahara is left for him to offend/coddle/staunchly defer to? He is at best the Liberal Adlai Stevenson... But please stick to your guns. I think TdHuh? is going to need the company.
